Platelet Rich Plasma for hair loss is the one of the top PRP google searches. PRP has been used for androgenic hair loss (male and female patterned balding), traction alopecia (due to weaves, braids, wigs, hair extensions, etc), alopecia areata (autoimmune hair loss) and even chemo induced hair loss.
Activated platelets from PRP active growth factors and proteins that signal numerous growth factors, including platelet-derived growth factor, transforming growth factor (TGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), epidermal growth factor (EGF), insulin-like growth factor, and interleukin-1. It is proposed that growth factors released from platelets may act on stem cells in the bulge area of the follicles, thereby stimulating the development of new hair follicles and promoting angiogenesis or blood flow.
There are numerous studies to suggest PRP is a safe and effective alternative to the traditional options of Minoxidil (Rogaine) or Finasteride (Propecia) which have potential side effects.
